I thought I'd try a morning session today to help set me up for the day. I've a never-ending mental to do list and some big life questions playing around inside my mind at the moment....shall I, shan't I, can I, should I? It feels pretty exhausting some days and that's before I've even got out of bed. So I'm hoping Headspace can help me do and think all that but perhaps in a less agitating fashion.
New spot today. Outside on the balcony. Today followed a similar flow as yesterday's Take 10, some quiet inhaling and exhaling, counting the breaths up to 10; a quick body scan and some time to just let your mind do its thing whatever it may be. It's very easy to listen to – no swirly music or cheesy inspirations. My favourite line of the day....“if your mind wants to think, let it think”. Thank goodness for that, because my mind's out of control thinking. It's jumping all over the shop. I've never found it realistic for me to be able to clear my mind completely. I hope I may get there one day but knowing that it's ok to still be thinking about my to do list makes me experience the meditation in a far more positive way. There's noise all around – people in other apartments, noisy cockatoos swooping about, buzzers going and kids in the distance - I hear it but it doesn't bother or interrupt me.
So, how do I feel? Good! I feel tired but then that's probably down to broken sleep. I feel relaxed and a little inspired and maybe even a little excited I think. Knowing I'll be doing this every day for a year makes me feel excited, hopeful and positive.
Right, onto the business of the to-do list! The plumber's due, I've an email to write and some banking to do. Meditation however – check. Crossed of the list for today :) What a good way to start my day.
