I know first hand that the food you eat can make or break the positive vibe in your life.
Food to me is a joy, a solace, a thing to feel good about. I love it. Love cooking, baking and mostly eating. Eating alone is good (because what others don't see doesn't count right?!) or a family dinner with sharing and laughter, food brings me an enormous sense of wellbeing
I do however have a mild addiction to food. I am a self-confessed guzzler, grazer, constant snacker and a nightmare at a buffet. I don't have a good off switch and in the past I've felt really guilty about it. Working at a French bakery company 10 years ago was possibly the peak of my gluttony.........beautiful crusty baguettes, flaky croissants, soft oozy custard doughnuts, sticky maple pecan danish.....fresh from the oven.....on hand all day, every day, for 5 years. I put on a ton of weight and my energy & stress levels bumped about all over the shop. I knew it wasn't exactly healthy but I never really understood/ cared to know what all that processed (completely delicious) stuff was doing to my body, my hormones, my skin, my moods and ultimately my confidence. I was overweight and fed up. I left the job and went travelling - for my body, it was probably the best decision I ever made! Since those days of toxic-food-fuelled stress I have educated myself about food and completely changed what I eat. I feel immeasurably more comfortable with myself and would go as far as to say possibly saner & kinder with less of the sugar rushes, slumps and food comas I had become a slave to. I have not, however, really changed how I eat. I still like snacking. I am a total guts. I like big portions. I like a couple of courses, I like to treat myself and I love sweet things. But I never feel guilty anymore, ever. Revelation. I'm generally a one-pot wonder, chuck it all together, minimum hassle, simple recipe kind of cook. I love being in the kitchen but don't have the patience for complicated things. I know first hand that the food you eat can make or break the sense of calm, contentment & the positive vibe in your life. Food is a major part of my make me ZEN year and I'll share with you easy recipes as I go along with any other interesting bits and bobs of info I find along the way. PS Yes that is a picture of chocolate up there and yes, it can be healthy and fabulous for you. Keep your eyes peeled for my homemade chocolate recipe. I have been known to eat it for breakfast! |
My happy food rules
Recipe love.....My favourite go-to website for recipes at the moment is www.thehealthychef.com. She has a massive list of clean, nourishing, feel-good recipes and she has not let me down once in the deliciousness stakes. I can highly recommend
Be informed, make your own food choices for whatever suits you Calorie control, raw food, Lite 'n Easy, paleo diet, gluten free, only organic, dairy intolerance, sugar free. The list of "healthy" food options goes on and can be bewildering and tedious. The best thing you can do for yourself is understand a little about how certain foods affect your body and how they make you feel. Everyone responds differently. An hour at a nutritionists could change your life, it happened to me. Next time someone doesn't know what to get you for a present - why not ask for a gift voucher to see your local dietician or nutritionist. Someone did it for me and it completely opened my eyes. |
